The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20 records the words of Jesus to his disciples after his death and resurrection. The brutal nature of Jesus death had shattered all their hopes and they were like sheep without a shepherd. Now in fear of their lives they are just coming to terms with news about Jesus’ resurrection and it is to these weak and fearful disciples that Jesus comes with his command to go into all the world and make disciples. It may seem surprising that these are the people he called, but when they go in obedience to his command they will turn the world upside down. This command is also for us today.
