Lent & Easter 2025
Lent in the early church was a forty day period for reflection, repentance and renewal for new Christian believers prior to their baptism at Easter. During this time, these new believers were immersed in Christian truth, they changed their life styles, aligning their behaviour in obedience to the Word of God.
Lent which began on Wednesday 5 March 2025, Ash Wednesday, remains a time for careful reflection, prayer and repentance for Christian believers today. They are encouraged to fast (not necessarily food always but anything that takes up their time and is unhelpful to their spiritual growth), to pray (sincerely seeking after God) and to give (to surrender their time, their money, and their lives to the service of God).
Over the next seven Sundays as we head towards Easter we will be reflecting on the seven ‘I am’ statements that Jesus made in John’s gospel, commencing with ‘I am the bread of life,’ and ending on Easter morning with the words ‘I am the resurrection and the life.’

I am the true vine

I am the way, the truth and the life

I am the Good Shepherd

I am the gate!

I am the light of the world!

I am the bread of life!
