Acts
Written by Luke, the author of Luke’s Gospel, this sequel tells the story of how Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled and the results that followed. Both Luke and Acts were written to the same man, Theophilus. We don’t know anything about him but his name means ‘loved by God’ or ‘friend of God’ and in a sense it is written to all those who and loved by God, such as us, who can be called his friends. It picks up from where Luke left off with a group of disciples who were weak and vulnerable and shows us what God can do with people like us when they are filled with the Holy Spirit.
These disciples would later be described as ‘people who turned the world upside down’ because of the transforming ministry of the Holy Spirit.
